I've been having a lot of trouble with maintaining a solid bluetooth connection. It'll work okay for calls, but I'm having problems when I try to connect to my car. Sometimes it connects but it's choppy, sometimes it doesn't connect. How do it fix this?

Are you on a custom rom? CM/AOKP possibly? There have been issues with Bluetooth on AOSP based roms.
If you are, try upgrading to the latest versions. Google supposedly addressed these issues.
If you are stock, or rooted with a stock based rom, try re-pairing the devices.
